Isaiah Hernandez

Outreach Committee Chair

Isaiah is an aspiring biomedical engineer with a strong interest in bioastronautics, space medicine, and human systems engineering. His passion for medicine and research developed early through exposure to neuroscience and laboratory research, and later expanded into biomedical engineering as he explored how engineering can improve human health and performance. Ultimately, his childhood fascination with science fiction and airshows inspired him to pursue a career in bioastronautics.

He earned a B.S. in Neuroscience from the University of California, Riverside, where, as an NIH-funded undergraduate research fellow, his work spanned bioinformatics, bioengineering, and biomechanics, providing a multidisciplinary perspective shaped by collaborative research across biological and engineering laboratories. His research has fostered a deep interest in how biological systems respond to extreme and constrained environments. He is pursuing advanced training in biomedical engineering to contribute to industry and research efforts that enhance human health, performance, and safety during long-duration space missions. He also aims to develop bioinstrumentation and life support systems robust to the space environment, advance medical systems innovation for remote medicine on Earth, and support underrepresented students pursuing careers in the space sector.

In his spare time, Isaiah enjoys performing at open mics, snowboarding, analog photography, and taking long drives along the Pacific Coast Highway in the summer.
