About The Research Special Lecture: Flight-Qualifying Medical Hardware For The ISS
The International Space Station is one of the most important platforms for advancing biomedical research in microgravity and preparing for the future of human space exploration. In this OSMED member lecture, Jessica Serano and Dr. Kimia Seyedmadani will discuss how research is conducted aboard the ISS and what it takes to design and qualify medical hardware for spaceflight.
Drawing from their work supporting NASA’s Human Research Program at Johnson Space Center, the speakers will explore the operational side of conducting research in orbit, the engineering processes required to certify biomedical systems for flight, and the collaboration between scientists, physicians, and engineers that enables these missions. The conversation will also touch on how lessons learned from ISS research and hardware development are informing future Artemis missions and advancing technologies that benefit healthcare on Earth.
