Antony Hsu, MD

Medicine Division

This Expert has a unique blend of engineering, medical, and leadership experience. With a biomedical engineering degree from Johns Hopkins and as a current M.Eng candidate in Space Engineering, he brings strong technical training directly relevant to cryogenic systems, human spaceflight applications, and system integration challenges. His NIH fellowship in molecular biology research and subsequent diverse academic publications demonstrate an ability to translate basic and clinical science into actionable outcomes—skills essential for designing, testing, and communicating results in multidisciplinary teams. As a senior emergency physician and Research Director, he has led diverse, high-stakes projects, balancing innovation with safety. His disaster medicine and aeromedical evacuation experiences provide additional perspectives on life support systems in extreme environments, with a goal of enabling safe, efficient long-duration human spaceflight. Beyond technical and clinical expertise, he has extensive leadership experience, from co-chairing national task forces with the American College of Emergency Physicians to coordinating multi-agency disaster response. This background is strengthened by his ability to foster collaboration across BLiSS Cryo’s engineering subteams, mentoring peers, and contributing to a project’s culture of rigorous design review and innovation.
