OSMED Journal Club: Matthew Murphy (OPEN TO EVERYONE)

Join OSMED for June’s Journal Club on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 5:00 PM ET for a public presentation and discussion with Matthew Murphy, a first-year MD/PhD student at the University of Texas Medical Branch.

This month’s session will focus on NASA’s Informing Mission Planning via Analysis of Complex Tradespaces, or IMPACT, tool suite. Matthew will present and evaluate the selected article while leading a conversation on the in-flight medical conditions the tool suite was built to address, including how mission planners assess complex clinical risks and medical resource needs during human spaceflight.

The discussion will also explore the role of ultrasound and radiography as diagnostic tools for these conditions, especially in environments where access to conventional medical infrastructure is limited. Attendees will gain insight into how medical imaging, clinical decision-making, and mission planning intersect as space agencies prepare for longer and more complex human exploration missions.

This event is open to the public.
