Join OSMED for May’s Journal Club on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 5:00 PM ET for a presentation and discussion on safeguarding mental health in spaceflight.

PhD candidate Jacinda Cottee, MS, a space health and performance researcher at Swinburne University of Technology, will present and evaluate the article “Navigating Mental Health in Space: Gut-Brain Axis and Microbiome Dynamics,” published in Experimental & Molecular Medicine. The article explores how long-duration spaceflight may affect astronaut mental health through changes in the gut microbiome, immune response, circadian rhythm disruption, radiation exposure, and the gut-brain axis.
